"Quite possibly THE best Campsite we've ever stayed at !
If it's peace and quiet together with spectacular views you're after look no further than Penlan Campsite. There are plenty of walks from the campsite through some of the most beautiful countryside that Britain has to offer. There is an abundance of wildlife in and around the site including a family of Woodpeckers which can be regularly seen feeding.Although there's no shop on site nearby Kington has everything you need for your stay.We were made to feel most welcome by Peter & Margaret and can't wait for a return visit.Well worth the 3 hour drive from Southampton."

wonderful views from the

amazingly quiet and
tranquil place to be. The

"we recently took our first camping trip at Penlan. Me, my wife, our 11 yr old son, his friend and our 2 yr old labrador. We initially got lost and drove all together 40 miles out of the way making our overall journey time over 5 hrs long...not good really with 2 kids and a dog. However the kids soon stopped complaining when we arrived at the site and saw the absolute amazing views all around us. The tent went up much to my surprise and we met other campers. The site itself is not huge but I think just perfect. Our labrador had a full field to himself which was just next door to the site where he could run his little legs off. Peter and Margaret are lovely kind and very friendly people who instantly made us feel welcome and the place it'self is beautiful...every part of it! We travelled into Hay on Wye for the best fish and chips as recommended by Margaret and she was right. We loved every minute of our stay and didn't want to come home. we look forward to our next trip to Penlan "

"A beautiful, peaceful spot to sit and relax. No traffic noise; just the sheep in the next field and the swallows as they fly past at break neck speed skimming the surface of the grass. I would certainly go back there - my only wish? - that it was nearer to my home so I could drop in for a weekend break."

"This is a really beautiful site - we camped next fields and glorious views... Facilities good - lashings of hot water - and clean.
Walks round Brilley to explore with easy access."

"We were looking for a quiet and picturesque site not too far from home for our first trip. Looking through the interwebby I came across this little gem. To be honest it all sounded a bit too good to be true, but it seemed the perfect place to give this camping malarky a bit of a go. The tent was delivered on Tuesday, trial erected overnight,(luckily it rained all night) The following day, all dried out it was packed away. On Thursday I phoned and spoke to Margaret, and much to my suprise, (given BBC's promise of fantastic weather) there was a pitch available. So on Friday we set out! No hanging about you know! We did have a slight problem finding the site, but that was quickly sorted and it was certainly worth the effort.
This was the perfect first camping experience, made all the better by this lovely little site. It is perfectly located, not totally isolated but well off the beaten track. If you are looking for a quiet & peaceful spot in beautiful surroundings..you've found it!"
Rachel Marsh
"What an amazing campsite, the photos on your website do not do it justice. Thank you so much for your warm welcome and two very comfortable nights in your idyllic site. Incidentally, how on this earth do you keep the grass so perfect?!"
Bob & Moya Cotton
"May we thank you both for the most wonderful time. Your hospitality is second to none and the site is the best we have ever visited in our many years of camping. We hope to return in the very near future and will be recommending you to our friends and family. Once again very many thanks."
Sue Fallon
"This site is a real gem.
It is so peaceful as all you can hear are birds and sheep. The views are fantastic and the owners are very welcoming. The site and its facilities are spotless.
We loved every minute of our stay there and feel very fortunate to have found such a great site. Try it, you wont regret it"

"Dear Peter & Margaret,
Just a short note to say thank you for a wonderful stay during the last bank holiday. You are a working farm with a great campsite too - how do you do it?? It was so quiet and tranquil, we felt at total ease letting our young ones do their own thing. More than adequate facilities and with a great atmosphere as well. We want to come back in August thats for sure!
Best regards, Rob Wendy Jack & Billy "

"Very friendly welcome from and lots of space between pitches which was great (numbers limited due to toilet / shower facilities which where clean ). Very quiet and it was helpful to have a fridge / freezer available for camper to keep drinks and food cool in
We had two children who had great fun playing with the other children on site in what is a very safe area. Yes we where next the grasstrees and enjoyed looking at the moths each morning before they were released.
Would love to go back soon and would recommend the site to anyone would wanted a relaxing and peaceful time (July 2008)

"This site is peaceful, with panaromic views of hills and countryside. There are many beautiful walks directly from the site. The pitches are well spaced so that it feels very uncrowded. The showers and washing up facilities are excellent. There is plenty of information available about local places of interest and barbecues and solar lamps available for loan. A great place to stay and relax."

"We had a great time despite the weather. Lovely site for peace and quiet and the owners are very friendly and helpful - even rescuing those of us that didn't follow their very detailed directions properly and required towing out of a muddy spot late at night! A brilliant place for getting away from it all and enjoying some lovely views and wild life. Looking forward to another weekend away at the end of the summer. THANK YOU."

"How amazing that we should meet up with John after 35 years, at your site. As I said to him, if I hadn't asked where to empty the loo, the connection would never have been made and we could well of been on your site for the whole week withoout realising the others presence!!
I should like to take this opportunity to thank you both for a wonderful stay at Penlan - it was a perfect week of peace and relaxation (Our first holiday for 19 years without the children) I am sure we will be back at some stage to do some more walking and sampling the tea shops"
The Higgins Family
"Great site, which as others have observed is really quiet and very relaxing. Facilities are good and views outstanding. Ask for a flat pitch if you are in a tent as there is a bit of a slope on part of the site (but its not a problem, I'm just being picky). The owners Peter and Margaret are v. friendly and helpful. All in all a good site that I look forward to visiting again in the future.

"We have just returned from a wonderful weeks camping holiday. Fantastic quiet site with plenty of room. If you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing place to stay this site defiantly ticks all the boxes. There appears to be a max of 20 pitches this includes the caravans we only had to queue once for a shower and that was at the weekend when the site was full. We cannot recommend this site enough, we are looking forward to returning soon."
the parker family
"We had originally booked to stay at another campsite near Hay on Wye, but on arrival felt it was just to horrid for words and tried Penlan at the last minute as it had been highly recommended to us. We were delighted when Peter said he was able to accept us, and were given great directions. What a beautiful site with amazing views, and so peaceful. Though the site was full, there was plenty of space and we couldn't believe our luck. As avid campers we are compiling a personal list of favourite campsites, and this is one of them. Thank you for a wonderful weekend, we were sorry to leave and look forward to our return visit.

"Top campsite, well kept with great views. Plenty of room for the kids to run around in the next door field and friendly staff."
Terry & Phyllis Martin
"Almost two weeks back at work after a wonderfully relaxing week at Penlan and I am still cool! (Even learning some young sayings)However the "cool" feeling is slowly wearing off - need to return as soon as possible to "top up" on the peace and quiet and of course those views. Hope to see you soon."
Reinhardt & Elizma van der Westhuizen
"We would like to thank you for making our holiday one of THE MOST unforgettable ones ever. We were amazed by Penlan’s spaciousness and the spectacular views in any direction possible. There was something special about the quietness that reminded us of the South African bush. It’s been a while since we’ve experienced the feeling of ‘freedom’, and it truly saddened us to return to London.
You have certainly not seen the last of us, as we are looking forward to seeing Penlan again in the near future.
We are honored to have been your first South Africans…

"This is a wonderful site that does exactly what it says on the tin! We were lucky enough to get on the site at very short notice for a glorious short week in June. Peter and Margaret have worked hard to make this one of the best sites we have found with surely the greatest facilities, location and views. Even their spaniel entertained us chasing the house martins up and down the field at breakneck speed, although he was defeated by the occasional RAF jets screaming overhead! Our guide dog pup took a little while to get used to the peace and quiet but we felt relaxed as soon as we arrived in our VW camper. Penlan is an ideal site to visit the many great attractions in the area – we especially enjoyed the National Cave Centre, Elan valley lakes and the Red Kite feeding station, and we even found evidence of the “beast” of Radnor forest at a nearby waterfall! We shall certainly keep Brilley at the top of the list of sites to re-visit."

"What more can we add the the comments already submitted. We have been camping for twenty-five years, yet this is one of the very best . A quiet, clean and friendly site. We are especially grateful to the kindness and generosity shown to us even after we left, (leaving some of our belongings behind!) Thank you Peter and Margaret, we will certainly be back (but we promise to take everything with us next time)"
Kara, Ben, Tom and Jack
"An excellent site, set in a fabulous location and perfectly maintained by friendly owners Peter and Margaret. We pitched our tent for seven nights over the May/June 2006 half-term holiday, and used the site as a base for visits to events at the Hay Festival (only 15 mins drive away), for canoeing on the Wye, and for walking in the National Park. We appreciated the setting, the quietness, the small size of the site, and Peter's and Margaret's attention to detail (the cricket set was enjoyed by us all, as was the use of one of the charcoal barbecues!). We'll be coming back."
Breezy, Linda & Tessdog
"Many thanks Margaret & Peter. We all enjoyed a very pleasant, quiet and relaxing weekend and look forward to visiting you again in the future.
Penlan is a lovely, tidy, sheltered site with generous pitch space and great views. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a place to unwind or a base for touring the local attractions."
Kevin & Catherine Simpson
"Without doubt THE most picturesque and peaceful site we have ever stayed on. Located on the border between England and Wales, and against a sheltered backdrop of mature trees and hedges, the 270 degree panoramic views from every pitch are amongst the best in the UK.
This small site has everything you want - exceptionally spacious pitches, modern, clean toilet/shower block, fields for walking dogs or children to play (if no animals grazing)and a friendly welcome from Peter and Margaret Joyce, who work very hard to keep this site special. There is an information shed, with maps and walks in the area which campers/caravanners can borrow, barbeques to hire and and fridge/freezer for camper's use.
Come to this site for a couple of nights, or a week, and you will leave relaxed, refreshed and already planning your next visit.
